A little bit from the history of the holiday
The idea of celebrating Mother’s Day is attributed to the American activist Julia Ward Howe, who published the Mother’s Day proclamation in 1872, as well as to the teacher from Grafton in West Virginia, Anna Jarvis, who in 1907 organized a memorial ceremony in memory of her deceased mother. The ceremony was held on May 10. Jarvis also wrote a letter to ministers, businessmen and politicians asking them to set Mother’s Day. The holiday was legalized in the United States by American President Woodrow Wilson on May 8, 1914.
It is also known that even in ancient Greece, they paid tribute to Gaia, the mother of all the gods. Later, since 1600, in England, the so-called “Mother's Sunday" was observed annually, which fell on the fourth Sunday of Lent. On this day, all the servants were sent home to spend time with their mothers. Traditionally, a special cake was baked.
