This is a modified version of the much-loved 627-374 cutting comb. The coarse teeth are formed to taper towards the mid-length end (this benefits as detangler purpose for thicker, curly/wavy hair) , the teeth are lengthened across the board to manage voluminous hair, and the spine is more aggressively curved for wavemaking. Additionally, the end of the channels are squared off with the spine, instead of fading into it (this is hard to capture in photos), this allows butter/wax/oil to be caught in a larger quantity, rather than simply having the comb slip through it without redistributing deeply. My preference is always for these squared off channels, because smooth transitions of hair are better formed and "polished" with square off channel ends, rather than round ones which have hairs stick out after shaping. This is a great feature and this is why aside from 619-416, this is my mainstay all-purpose comb. The narrow, curved spine maximizes manoeuvrability; and the final difference is that the end teeth are just a touch thinner and more tapered with the body of the comb than the 627, this is important for styling in difficult areas such as under top layers, and sides. It does make it more brittle though (not as brittle as 619 but close), so handle with care and try not to use chemicals that will make it brittle; instead prioritize distilled water and natural waxes/butters.

When forming waves, this is one of the best ones for this task; because the spine is robust and thick; this means that twisting work can be done without fear of breakage, as long as natural waxes/butters are used so as not to make the comb brittle. This is best used as a 2nd or 3rd stage shaping comb, for shaping; after wax is distributed deep into the hair via the use of a detangler with deep channels cut into it. Its wax/oil distribution will focus on spreading it on the top-most layer as grooves are not cut deep into the spine like other models, so it is important to have the wax/butter penetrate the lower areas of hair first. Complex waves can be formed and the curve means that twisting can be done with less movement of the wrist. Highly recommended, no quality problems at all.

This is excellent as a detangler comb. It can substitute or replace larger detanglers for medium to short hair, its spine is thick and robust, and contoured as well, it is the most elegant detangler comb and most revolutionary, as all the other detanglers have very generic shapes and cannot serve double-duty as a rat tail styler and detangler at once. It's far more beautiful in person than in photos. It's extremely robust and its teeth are the same size as larger detanglers, but since the teeth are shorter, they can withstand more force without breaking, especially since this is the thickest rat-tail in the catalogue dimensions-wise. The deep groves allow for wax to be pressed into the hair and integrate itself , allowing for styles to hold their form. It's large but not bulky, it retains its manoeuvrability. It is best used for detangling wavy hair, and suited to voluminous, high-difficulty hairstyles. Unless you have very long hair, this can serve as a main detangler/general purpose styler. The fineness of its teeth are perfect, not too wide apart, but not too narrow, its just right in the middle, compared to other general purpose combs.

This is the best finishing comb I have, the raised teeth allows for seamless finishing of top layers of hair on wavy and straight hairstyles alike, smoothing out any stray hairs. Specifically, it excels on the side area, where ensuring a smooth transition is important for semi-medium length male hairstyles. Whatever wax or butter you use, the grooves will help press it into the hair and allow the hair to maintain its shape better, as the wax is now pressed deep into the hairs, rather than catching it on a typical non-faceted comb, and only achieving a shallow, surface-level redistribution of wax. It's spine is fragile so its best used without chemicals in your hair, use natural waxes and butters like shea butter or beeswax. Additionally, while it can detangle surface level hair, a dedicated detangler would be best to be used before using this comb on the last stage of preparation especially due to its fragility. Font is clear and elegant in a 1920s style, finish is glossy and shiny without burrs, just polish your comb after use with a woolen cloth. I will definitely order more as these combs fill a very specific niche use.
